Imran Khan on Pahalgam attack

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has termed the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir as “deeply disturbing and tragic,” extending condolences to the victims and their families.

Speaking from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi during a discussion with his lawyers, Imran Khan stated, “Loss of human life in the Pahalgam incident is deeply disturbing and tragic. I extend my deepest condolences to the victims and their families.”

Referring to the 2019 Pulwama attack, Khan alleged that India is once again blaming Pakistan without evidence. “As I predicted in 2019, the same is happening again. Instead of introspection and investigation, Modi Sarkar is again placing the blame on Pakistan,” he said.

He warned that India, being a country of 1.5 billion people, should act responsibly and avoid provoking tensions in a nuclear flashpoint region. “Peace is our priority, but it should not be mistaken for cowardice. Pakistan is fully capable of responding to any Indian misadventure, just as my government did in 2019,” he added.

Khan also accused India’s leadership of being driven by the RSS ideology, describing it as a grave regional threat. He highlighted the abrogation of Article 370 as a move that has intensified the Kashmiri people’s demand for self-determination.

Internally, Khan lamented the divisions within Pakistan, blaming the current government for political victimisation and polarisation. He urged for national unity, especially in the face of external threats, and criticised the Pakistani state’s focus on internal repression at a critical time.

He further accused political rivals, including President Asif Ali Zardari and former PM Nawaz Sharif, of remaining silent on Indian aggression due to their alleged foreign business interests. “They fear losing their offshore assets, so they won’t speak out against India,” Khan claimed.

The former Prime Minister concluded by calling for unity within Pakistan to effectively confront external aggression and preserve national sovereignty.
