India and Bolivia reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral ties as Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita was warmly received by La Paz Mayor Iván Arias at the historic Palacio Consistorial. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in culture, health, urban development, and the promotion of Gandhian values.

Margherita, who arrived in Bolivia’s capital La Paz after a successful visit to Ecuador, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome. “Happy to receive this honour on behalf of the people of India. Grateful to Mayor of La Paz, Mr. Iván Arias, and the people of Bolivia for this warm welcome and great honour,” he posted on X on Saturday.

During their discussions, both leaders agreed to explore new avenues for collaboration in yoga, traditional medicine, cultural exchange, urban planning, and sustainable city initiatives. The meeting reflected the growing momentum in India–Bolivia relations since the opening of India’s new Embassy in La Paz, which the minister is set to inaugurate during his visit.

Margherita is representing India at the inauguration ceremony of Bolivia’s new President Rodrigo Paz Pereira, underscoring India’s commitment to strengthening engagement with Latin America. He will also meet Bolivian business leaders, Indian community members, Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) alumni, and cultural groups.

Sharing details of his visit, the minister posted on X: “Arrived in La Paz, the world’s highest capital, to represent India at the inauguration ceremony of the new President of Bolivia. During the visit, I look forward to inaugurating the newly opened Embassy of India in La Paz and engaging with business leaders, the Indian community, ITEC alumni, and cultural groups.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier congratulated President-elect Rodrigo Paz Pereira on his victory in Bolivia’s presidential elections held on October 19, expressing confidence in the continued strengthening of India–Bolivia relations.

India and Bolivia share warm and friendly ties rooted in mutual respect and development cooperation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has emphasized growing opportunities in mining, infrastructure, healthcare, information technology, capacity building, and pharmaceuticals, highlighting the promise of a stronger partnership between the two nations.
