India Corner inaugurated at Utadeo University library in Colombia to promote culture and education
An India Corner was inaugurated at Utadeo University in Bogota by Ambassador of India to Colombia Vanlalhuma, showcasing Indian works on history, literature, philosophy, diplomacy, culture, and economy. The initiative, supported by book donations from the Indian Embassy in Bogota, aims to enhance access to Indian literature and promote educational and cultural ties between India and Colombia.
Ambassador Vanlalhuma inaugurated the corner at the university library, emphasizing the importance of fostering knowledge about India among students and faculty. “Embassy of India in Bogota donated books to the Library of Utadeo University, where Ambassador Vanlalhuma inaugurated the India Corner displaying Indian works on history, literature, philosophy, diplomacy, culture & economy,” the Embassy posted on social media.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy participated in the International Week at El Bosque University, where India was the guest country. The celebrations included a yoga session, an Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) presentation, a screening of the Hindi film Mountain Man, photo exhibitions on Mahatma Gandhi and sacred India, and academic discussions on development, India-Colombia cooperation, and Indian languages. Students also took part in a painting competition inspired by Indian art.
On October 4, Ambassador Vanlalhuma inaugurated a similar India Corner at El Bosque University, further strengthening bilateral educational and cultural cooperation. Several books were also donated there.
India and Colombia established diplomatic relations in January 1959, celebrating 60 years of partnership in 2019. Over the years, multiple MoUs and agreements have been signed in areas including trade, science and technology, defence, IT, tourism, space, health, culture, and traditional medicine.
The India Corners reflect growing Colombian interest in Indian culture, heritage, festivals, music, dance, gastronomy, and spirituality, helping to deepen educational, cultural, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
