Jaishankar reiterates India’s call for early end to Ukraine conflict in talks with Polish FM
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Thursday reiterated India’s position calling for an early end to the conflict in Ukraine during a phone conversation with Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
“Spoke to Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski of Poland today. He shared his concern about recent developments pertaining to Poland’s security. I underlined that India favors an early end to hostilities and a durable solution for the Ukraine conflict,” Jaishankar posted on X.
The talks come amid heightened tensions in Eastern Europe after Poland reported that its airspace was breached 19 times on September 9 by drones believed to be Russian-made. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the incident as a “large-scale provocation” ahead of an emergency government meeting.
In response, Russia’s Defence Ministry denied targeting Poland, stating that the drones involved had a maximum range of only 700 km. The ministry said it was open to consultations with Polish counterparts to address the matter.
Reaffirming India’s consistent stance, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal recently said, “We welcome all the recent efforts towards establishing peace in Ukraine. We hope that all parties will proceed constructively. India supports an early end to the conflict and the establishment of an enduring peace.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly underscored India’s position on a peaceful resolution, most recently during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin. Modi emphasized that humanity at large seeks an end to the war and the restoration of regional peace and stability.
