India and Japan vow deeper cooperation, stress technology–talent synergy

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Friday underlined that Japan’s advanced technology and India’s skilled human resources and vast market are natural complements, pledging to expand Tokyo’s investments in India and strengthen bilateral ties.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit in Tokyo, Ishiba highlighted the need for both nations to uphold a free and open Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law. “India is driving global transformation through innovation, while Japan leads with technology. Together, we can find solutions to shared challenges,” he said.

He emphasized that India and Japan, bound by common democratic values, must enhance defense cooperation to ensure regional peace and stability. Ishiba also recalled his 2019 India visit, noting the steady progress in the special strategic and global partnership forged in 2014.

PM Modi, who received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at Kantei, also addressed the India-Japan Economic Forum earlier in the day, where he underscored India’s deepening economic ties with Japan and potential areas of future collaboration.

The summit was attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, NSA Ajit Doval, Ambassador Sibi George, and senior officials from both countries. PM Modi arrived in Tokyo Friday morning for his two-day visit, welcomed by Japanese and Indian envoys.
