India open to talks with Pakistan only on terrorism: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday reaffirmed that India is open to dialogue with Pakistan only on terrorism, making the country’s position clear following the successful Operation Sindoor.

“The Prime Minister has made it very clear — the only talks with Pakistan will be on terror,” Jaishankar told reporters after inaugurating the Embassy of Honduras in New Delhi. “Pakistan has a list of terrorists who must be handed over. They must dismantle their terror infrastructure. We are ready to talk only about what needs to be done on terrorism.”

The minister emphasized that India achieved all its key objectives during Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jaishankar said the operation drew significant international support, with world leaders expressing solidarity. A UN Security Council resolution also called for the perpetrators to be held accountable.

The EAM stressed that India targeted only terrorist infrastructure. “Pakistan’s military was told not to interfere. They ignored the advice and suffered the consequences. Satellite images now clearly show the scale of damage inflicted on terrorist camps versus minimal damage on our side.”

Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the ceasefire with Pakistan would hold only if there were no further terror attacks. He also called for Pakistan’s nuclear facilities to come under international oversight.

Addressing troops at Srinagar’s Badami Bagh Cantonment, Singh said, “Operation Sindoor is the largest anti-terror mission India has undertaken. After they tried to harm us, we struck them where it hurt the most.”
