India and Poland have taken another step toward deepening their strategic engagement, with senior diplomats from both countries reviewing the progress of their bilateral partnership and outlining key priorities under the 2024–2028 Action Plan. The discussions reflect a shared commitment to expanding cooperation in defence, technology, security, trade, and people-to-people engagement while strengthening collaboration on global and regional issues.

In New Delhi, Secretary (West) in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George, met Poland’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Wladyslaw T. Bartoszewski, for a high-level dialogue on Thursday. The meeting focused on evaluating the current state of the India–Poland Strategic Partnership and identifying concrete deliverables under their five-year Joint Action Plan.

Following the talks, India’s Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that both sides engaged in a substantive exchange on bilateral priorities and implementation of agreed initiatives. The discussions underlined a mutual intent to translate political understanding into tangible outcomes across multiple sectors.

India and Poland elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2024 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Warsaw. This upgrade marked a significant shift in bilateral ties, placing greater emphasis on structured cooperation, regular consultations, and long-term engagement across political, economic, and security domains.

As part of this framework, both countries adopted a comprehensive five-year Action Plan covering areas such as defence collaboration, advanced technology, digital infrastructure, energy security, trade expansion, and cultural exchanges. The latest meeting served as a mid-course review to assess progress and accelerate pending initiatives.

Earlier in January, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held discussions with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski. That conversation covered economic engagement, defence cooperation, critical minerals, technology partnerships, and multilateral coordination. India also appreciated Poland’s support for stronger ties between India and the European Union, particularly in trade and strategic cooperation.

In December, India and Poland conducted their 11th round of Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi. These talks were co-chaired by Sibi George and Wladyslaw Bartoszewski and focused on strengthening collaboration in defence and security, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and science and technology.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to counter-terrorism efforts, agreeing that global security threats require coordinated action and intelligence-sharing. They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in emerging technologies, including AI governance, digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity resilience.

Trade emerged as a key area of focus, with Poland reaffirming its position as India’s largest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe. Officials from both sides expressed confidence that bilateral trade could expand further through greater market access, investment flows, and industrial collaboration.

Poland also reiterated its support for the early conclusion of an India–EU Free Trade Agreement, which could open new opportunities for businesses, boost economic growth, and strengthen supply chains between India and Europe.

Overall, the latest diplomatic engagement signals a growing alignment between India and Poland on strategic, economic, and security matters. As both countries move forward with their Action Plan, the partnership is expected to gain momentum in the coming years, reinforcing India’s ties with Central and Eastern Europe while strengthening Poland’s engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
