India, Russia hold Special Mechanism dialogue on Pakistan and Afghanistan

India and Russia held the sixth meeting of the Special Mechanism on Pakistan and Afghanistan in Moscow, focusing on regional conflicts and broader international security issues under their ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.’

The Indian delegation was led by Deputy National Security Advisor Pavan Kapoor, while Russia was represented by Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Venediktov. The Embassy of India in Moscow posted on X that the consultations covered ongoing conflicts and security challenges, emphasizing the importance of sustained dialogue between the two nations.

The meeting follows a series of high-level engagements. In August, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited Russia and met First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, discussing military-technical cooperation and joint projects in strategic sectors such as civil aviation, metallurgy, and the chemical industry. Doval also met Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu to explore ways to deepen strategic ties and cooperation in multilateral forums.

During these discussions, both sides highlighted the need for collaborative efforts ahead of this year’s annual India-Russia summit. They exchanged views on global security challenges and coordinated approaches in multilateral platforms, reinforcing the continuity of strategic dialogue despite evolving global alignments.

Doval’s visit also included a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, which was described by the Russian leadership as “constructive,” underlining the ongoing commitment of both countries to strengthen their strategic partnership.
