China Committee Chairman meets Indian Envoy, calls India ‘essential partner’ in global security
Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Kwatra met with House Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI), where both leaders emphasized the growing significance of the India-US strategic partnership.
According to a statement from the Select Committee, Thursday’s discussions focused on regional security, trade, supply chain resilience, and efforts to “shift critical manufacturing from China to India.”
Moolenaar described India as the “world’s largest democracy and an essential partner for global stability,” citing New Delhi’s direct experience with Chinese Communist Party (CCP) “aggression.” He highlighted India’s increasing role as a key US security and defense partner.
“India has faced CCP aggression first-hand and is a major security partner with a rapidly growing defense industrial relationship that helps protect the American people,” Moolenaar said. He also praised India’s leadership in countering “malign CCP-directed technology and social media companies,” noting New Delhi’s ban on TikTok and other Chinese apps following the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes.
The statement said the two sides also discussed cooperation under the Quad framework and strategies to counter the CCP’s expansionist ambitions.
Kwatra’s meeting with Moolenaar came days after his talks with US Undersecretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby at the Pentagon. On X, Kwatra described the exchange as a “productive conversation” that reviewed the current defense agenda and outlined actionable initiatives to strengthen cooperation. Colby also posted that the Pentagon looks forward to “elevating critical defense cooperation with India.”
The back-to-back engagements underscore Washington and New Delhi’s shared vision of deepening their strategic and defense ties in response to China’s growing global influence.
