Indian airstrikes hit Karachi base in Operation Sindoor
In a sharp escalation after the Pahalgam terror attack, India launched a coordinated tri-service military campaign under Operation Sindoor, targeting key terror and military installations in Pakistan and PoK.
Air Marshal A.K. Bharti confirmed that Indian Air Force jets conducted precision strikes near Karachi, hitting a surface-to-air missile site in Malir Cantonment, a major Pakistani military facility. The strike, part of a calibrated retaliation, aimed to degrade Pakistan’s offensive capabilities.
Additional strikes included:
- Radar site near Lahore, using Israeli HARPY loitering munitions to destroy a Chinese HQ-9 air defence system.
- Radar facility near Gujranwala, impacting Pakistan’s early warning network.
The Indian Navy deployed carrier strike groups, submarines, and maritime aircraft off Karachi’s coast, effectively pinning down Pakistani naval forces. Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod said the posture was meant to restrict enemy movement and signal strong deterrence.
India earlier confirmed it had destroyed nine terror camps (four in mainland Pakistan, five in PoK), killing over 100 terrorists.
In retaliation, Pakistan launched drone and missile strikes on Indian regions including Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, triggering air raid alerts and temporary blackouts in cities like Chandigarh and Jaisalmer.
India responded by targeting Pakistani airbases housing F-16s and JF-17s, including Rafiqui, Chaklala, Murid, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, and Bholari, maintaining aerial pressure over 72 hours.
