Jaishankar, Cyprus FM Kombos discuss roadmap to implement India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025–2029
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday met visiting Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos in New Delhi to review the implementation of the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025–2029, which aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in defence, trade, technology, and innovation.
The two ministers discussed the global geopolitical situation, regional developments, and ways to enhance coordination in multilateral forums. Jaishankar expressed confidence that India-EU ties will further deepen as Cyprus prepares to assume the European Union Presidency in 2026.
“Our discussions covered the global situation and our cooperation in multilateral fora. As Cyprus takes over the EU Presidency in 2026, we are confident India-EU ties will grow stronger,” Jaishankar said on X. He reiterated India’s support for Cyprus’ sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity and called the relationship “trust-based and time-tested.”
Kombos, on his first official visit to India, thanked New Delhi for its warm hospitality and underlined that the discussions focused on implementing the Action Plan agreed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Cyprus in June 2025. He also reaffirmed appreciation for India’s “principled support” on the Cyprus issue and its commitment to international law.
The Cypriot Foreign Minister highlighted ongoing cooperation in areas such as innovation, trade, and defence, while noting that India and Cyprus share a “forward-looking, strategic partnership.”
Jaishankar also expressed gratitude for Cyprus’ consistent support for India’s fight against cross-border terrorism and its backing of India’s bid for permanent membership in an expanded UN Security Council.
Kombos’ three-day visit underscores both countries’ intention to translate the Joint Action Plan into tangible outcomes that will define the next phase of India-Cyprus strategic engagement.
