India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar continued his high-level diplomacy at the UN, convening meetings on United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reform and outreach to the Pacific Islands, while also holding bilateral discussions with key foreign ministers.

To advance Security Council reforms, a priority for India, Jaishankar hosted the second L.69 and C10 Joint Ministerial meeting on Wednesday. “We gather with a unity of purpose—to push for comprehensive reforms of the UN Security Council as fellow members of the Global South,” he said. The C-10 includes ten prominent African Union members such as Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria, while the L.69 is a 42-member Global South coalition advocating UNSC reform.

Jaishankar also chaired the Forum for India–Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) meeting, noting on X that the 12-point action plan announced by PM Narendra Modi in 2023 is progressing well. He highlighted India’s people-centric development partnership with Pacific Island countries, focusing on health, technology, capacity building, and training.

In bilateral meetings, Jaishankar reaffirmed support for a lasting settlement of the Cyprus issue with Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, who thanked India for its principled support and upholding of international law. He also discussed strengthening bilateral ties with Mexico, Nicaragua, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Brazil, and Pacific Island nations including the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, Palau, Tonga, and the Solomon Islands.

Through these engagements, Jaishankar emphasized India’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy, UNSC reform, and strategic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific, underscoring the country’s role as a constructive voice in global governance.
