Viable pathway to long-term, sustainable peace: PM Modi welcomes Trump’s Gaza plan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, describing it as a “viable pathway” to long-term stability, peace, and development for both Palestinians and Israelis.
Trump formally announced the proposal at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan seeks to end the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict by establishing a temporary technocratic government in Gaza, halting the war, and securing the release of hostages within 72 hours.
In a post on X, Modi said, “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region.” He added that India hopes all stakeholders will unite behind the initiative.
The plan envisions Gaza being overseen by an international transitional body, the “Board of Peace,” chaired by Trump with global leaders including former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. This body would manage redevelopment funds and oversee governance until the Palestinian Authority completes reforms to assume control.
Trump stressed that if Hamas accepts the proposal, the conflict will end immediately. “Now it’s time for Hamas to accept the terms of the plan. I’m hearing Hamas wants to get this done,” he said. But he warned that if rejected, “Israel would have my full backing to finish the job of destroying Hamas.”
Netanyahu endorsed the plan, calling it aligned with Israel’s war objectives while reiterating that Israel is prepared to act decisively if Hamas refuses.
The plan also offers amnesty for Hamas members who commit to peace, safe passage for others, and international oversight of Gaza’s security and police training.
