Ex-judge submits MUDA scam report to Karnataka govt amid political storm

Retired Karnataka High Court judge P.N. Desai, who heads the judicial commission probing the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, submitted a six-volume report to the state government on Thursday. Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh received the report on behalf of the Siddaramaiah administration.

The report’s findings remain undisclosed, but its submission marks a significant moment in the high-profile case involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his wife B.M. Parvathi, both of whom are named as accused.

The alleged scam involves questionable site allotments, land de-notifications, and encroachments related to 3.16 acres of land owned by Parvathi near Mysuru. The BJP has accused Siddaramaiah of misusing his position to create fraudulent documents and secure 14 sites under MUDA in his wife’s name, estimating a loss of ₹4,000 crore to the state exchequer.

While Siddaramaiah claims the allotments occurred during the BJP’s tenure and offered to return the land, his wife later returned the 14 MUDA sites. The Karnataka Lokayukta, Enforcement Directorate (ED), and High Court have all been involved in the case, with a petition pending seeking a CBI probe.

In a recent setback for the ED, the Supreme Court dismissed its Special Leave Petition challenging a High Court order that quashed notices issued to Parvathi and Minister Byrathi Suresh. The CJI-led bench criticized the ED’s involvement in politically sensitive cases and warned against allowing the agency to be misused.

In protest, the BJP and JD(S) launched a 7-day foot march from Bengaluru to Mysuru, demanding Siddaramaiah’s resignation, which is scheduled to conclude on August 4.

Siddaramaiah welcomed the Supreme Court verdict and demanded a public apology from BJP and JD(S) leaders for what he called politically motivated allegations.
