Netanyahu hails Trump as Israel’s ‘greatest friend’, praises decisive peace actions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday called US President Donald Trump the “greatest friend” Israel has ever had in the White House, praising his “quick, decisive, and resolute” actions in Middle East peace efforts.

Addressing the Knesset ahead of Trump’s remarks, Netanyahu highlighted the US President’s pivotal role in ending the war against Hamas and recovering hostages, while opening avenues for historic peace expansion in the region. “You are committed to this peace, I am committed to this peace. Together, Mr. President, we will achieve this peace,” he stated.

Netanyahu lauded Trump’s longstanding support for Israel, including recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, relocating the US Embassy, affirming sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and defending Israel at the United Nations. He also thanked Trump for endorsing Israeli rights in the West Bank, facilitating the Abraham Accords, exiting the Iran nuclear deal, and responding militarily to Iranian threats.

“The last two years have been a time of war. The coming two years will hopefully be a time of peace—inside Israel and outside Israel,” Netanyahu said, emphasising his commitment to continuing the Abraham Accords and pursuing new treaties with Arab and Muslim nations.

Netanyahu, however, opted not to attend the Sharm el-Sheikh summit convened to advance US-led peace plans for Gaza, citing time constraints. “The Prime Minister thanked President Trump for the invitation and his efforts to expand the circle of peace—peace through strength,” his office tweeted.

Netanyahu’s remarks underline the strong Israel-US alliance and underscore Trump’s continuing influence on regional diplomacy, particularly in navigating post-conflict reconstruction, peace-building, and broader strategic cooperation.
