Omar Abdullah government holds special cabinet meeting in Pahalgam
The Jammu and Kashmir government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, held a special cabinet meeting on Tuesday in the tourist town of Pahalgam to send a strong message against terrorism and reassure the public after the April 22 terror attack that killed 26 people.
This symbolic meeting, held outside the usual capitals of Srinagar and Jammu, aimed to show solidarity with Pahalgam residents and highlight the government’s resolve to restore normalcy and boost confidence in the region’s safety.
It marks the first such outstation cabinet session since Omar Abdullah returned to office in October 2024. During his earlier term (2009–14), he had similarly convened meetings in remote areas to engage directly with local communities.
The decision follows Omar’s recent appeal at the NITI Aayog meeting urging the Centre to support J&K tourism by encouraging PSUs and parliamentary committees to hold meetings in Kashmir. The cabinet is also expected to meet tourism stakeholders in Pahalgam for recovery strategies.
