India gains global support after Operation Sindoor strikes
India’s strong response to the Pahalgam terror attack through ‘Operation Sindoor’ has not only struck terrorist bases in Pakistan but also earned it significant global diplomatic backing. Contrary to concerns about international backlash, India has emerged stronger on the global stage, garnering support for its right to self-defence and counterterrorism efforts.
India’s airstrikes targeted terror hubs across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), following the April 22 massacre in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. The operation was marked by precision and restraint, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri assuring the international community that the strikes avoided collateral damage.
Following the strikes, the Indian government engaged in proactive diplomacy. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with his U.S. and European Union (EU) counterparts to explain India’s position and stress its resolve to respond proportionately to any escalation.
The international reaction has been largely supportive. The United States, European Union (along with all 27 member states), and several Arab nations recognized India’s right to defend itself. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said India had every reason to be outraged, while former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak emphasized that “no country should tolerate cross-border terror.”
Israel strongly backed India, declaring, “Terrorists have no sanctuary,” while France, Japan, and the Netherlands echoed similar sentiments. Even Russia, while cautioning against further escalation, condemned terrorism in all forms.
Among Islamic countries, the UAE and Qatar called for calm and expressed firm opposition to terrorism, while Iran emphasized peace and condemned civilian targeting. Saudi Arabia voiced concern over the growing tension but refrained from blaming either side directly.
Notably, Bangladesh unequivocally supported India’s right to self-defence, reinforcing regional backing for India’s stance.
Meanwhile, Pakistan retaliated with aerial attacks on Indian military installations for two consecutive nights. However, all attempts were successfully repelled by India’s air defence systems, further underscoring New Delhi’s preparedness and restraint.
India’s narrative of precision, restraint, and moral clarity in the fight against terror has clearly resonated. Its diplomatic offensive has effectively countered misinformation and placed the blame squarely on Pakistan for escalating tensions while continuing to harbor terror groups.
As Operation Sindoor unfolds, India finds itself not isolated but firmly supported by much of the international community.
