PM Modi to stay at Blair House during US visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will stay at Blair House, the official guest residence for visiting dignitaries, during his two-day visit to the United States.

Located at 1651 Pennsylvania Avenue, directly across from the White House, Blair House is more than just a guest house—it is a symbol of American diplomacy and hospitality. Often referred to as “the world’s most exclusive hotel,” it has hosted presidents, royalty, and world leaders.

In preparation for PM Modi’s arrival, Blair House has been adorned with the Indian flag, marking the significance of his visit. He is traveling to the US at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

Before departing for Washington, PM Modi emphasized that this visit would build on previous collaborations and set the stage for deeper cooperation between India and the US.

“This visit will provide an opportunity to expand our partnership in key areas such as technology, trade, defense, energy, and supply chain resilience. We will work together for the benefit of our people and to shape a better future for the world,” he stated.

Blair House, a 70,000-square-foot complex, consists of four interconnected townhouses. With 119 rooms, including 14 guest bedrooms, 35 bathrooms, and three formal dining rooms, it offers a five-star experience to its guests. The residence is decorated with antique furniture, fine art, and historical artifacts, reflecting American history and craftsmanship.

Since November 2024, PM Modi and President Trump have spoken twice over the phone. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended Trump’s inauguration and later met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He also participated in the QUAD Foreign Ministers’ meeting in January 2025.

India and the US established a strategic partnership in 2005, which was later elevated to a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership during President Trump’s visit to India in February 2020. The Indo-Pacific region has remained a central focus of US foreign policy under his administration.

PM Modi is visiting the US after concluding a three-day trip to France, where he co-hosted the Artificial Intelligence Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron. During his visit, he also met US Vice President JD Vance to discuss mutual interests, including US investments in India’s clean energy sector.

Following their discussions, PM Modi and Vice President Vance, along with Second Lady Usha Vance, shared a coffee meeting. The Prime Minister also presented gifts to the Vance children and extended birthday wishes to their son, Vivek.
