Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Croatian President Zoran Milanovic in Zagreb on Wednesday and held extensive talks focused on strengthening the India-Croatia relationship across key sectors like commerce, culture, and defence.

The two leaders discussed the growing depth of bilateral ties, reaffirming their shared commitment to democracy, rule of law, and global peace. “Had extensive discussions on the full range of India-Croatia friendship, including ways to boost linkages of commerce and culture,” PM Modi posted on X after the meeting.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that both leaders expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation in newer areas such as start-ups, defence, innovation, and sports.

PM Modi thanked President Milanovic for Croatia’s support in India’s fight against terrorism and acknowledged the historic cultural links binding the two nations.

The leaders also reviewed regional and global issues of mutual interest. They emphasized the importance of the growing India-EU strategic partnership and its positive impact on enhancing India-Croatia relations.

Later in the day, PM Modi also held high-level talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic at the historic Banski Dvori Palace. The discussions spanned multiple sectors including trade, science and technology, defence, space cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

PM Modi was warmly welcomed by PM Plenkovic at Zagreb airport in a special gesture, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia. A ceremonial reception followed at the presidential palace.

The visit reflects a milestone in India-Croatia diplomatic engagement, setting the stage for deeper collaboration in innovation-led sectors and closer cultural ties.
