PM Modi hails ‘landmark’ Croatia visit, strengthens bilateral ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called his first-ever visit to Croatia a “landmark” moment, thanking the government and people of Croatia for their warm welcome and strong commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

PM Modi met with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and President Zoran Milanovic during his stay in Zagreb. Discussions covered expanding cooperation in defence, technology, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, IT, and renewable energy. “Our talks aimed at making the India-Croatia bond even stronger,” PM Modi posted on X.

The leaders also agreed to promote cooperation in semiconductors, shipbuilding, and cyber security, and to deepen academic and cultural exchanges.

PM Modi highlighted shared democratic values like pluralism, rule of law, and equality as a strong foundation for the growing partnership. “This visit ushers in a new chapter in our shared journey of friendship and extensive cooperation,” he said.

The Indian PM also visited the Monument to the Homeland and toured the historic city centre of Zagreb with PM Plenkovic. “Grateful to my friend, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, for the special gesture,” Modi said.

He interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, calling their warm welcome “unforgettable.” He lauded the role of Croatia’s Indian community in strengthening people-to-people ties and praised the growing popularity of Yoga in the country.

In a joint statement, PM Modi emphasized that “dialogue and diplomacy” are the only viable solutions to global disputes and condemned terrorism as a threat to democracy and humanity.

Modi’s visit signals a strategic upgrade in India-Croatia relations, with plans to build reliable supply chains and expand cooperation across innovation-driven sectors.
