PM Modi: J&K Residents Eager for Elections and a Vibrant Poll Process

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Thursday that the turnout in the first phase of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir indicates strong enthusiasm among the people, who are eager to make the electoral process lively.

PM Modi is set to address two election rallies in the union territory—one in Srinagar and another in Katra—as the second phase of the Assembly polls approaches on September 25.

In a post on X, PM Modi shared, “I look forward to being with the people of Jammu and Kashmir today. The turnout yesterday shows their enthusiasm for the elections and their desire to make the poll process vibrant.” He also mentioned that he would discuss the development agenda and seek the people’s support.

The Prime Minister’s rally at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar is scheduled for around noon, followed by another at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sports Complex in Katra at 3:00 p.m. This will mark Modi’s first election rally in Kashmir for the ongoing Assembly elections, following a public meeting in Doda, Jammu, on September 14.

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh described PM Modi’s visit to J&K as a “game changer,” noting the warm reception he typically receives from the public. “People of J&K love the Prime Minister, and his visit will be a milestone event for them,” he stated.

Comprehensive security arrangements have been made for the rally venues, with an SPG team arriving in Srinagar four days prior to coordinate safety measures. The Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, located in Ram Munshibagh, has a large capacity, and police will regulate participant access, with some traffic diversions in place.

Police confirmed that all high-rise buildings around the venue will be monitored by sharpshooters, and security will be enhanced through both electronic and human surveillance.

Ahead of the first phase of polling, PM Modi encouraged voters to participate actively, urging those in constituencies to “vote in large numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy.” He particularly called on young and first-time voters to enthusiastically exercise their franchise.
