
PM Modi meets Russian Dy PM Patrushev, discusses enhancing bilateral cooperation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev on the sidelines of World Food India 2025, discussing ways to enhance cooperation in agriculture, fertilisers, food processing, and other areas of mutual interest.
Taking to X, PM Modi said, “Happy to meet Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at World Food India 2025. We discussed ways to strengthen our win-win cooperation in agriculture, fertilisers, and food processing.” He also conveyed greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed anticipation for welcoming him to India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
Russia was the partner country for the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in Noida, underscoring the strategic significance of India-Russia trade and technology exchange. Over 2,400 exhibitors, 125,000 B2B visitors, and 450,000 B2C visitors participated, reflecting strong business engagement.
PM Modi highlighted India-Russia defence collaboration, noting that production of AK-203 rifles is set to begin, and BrahMos missile production has started. He also spoke about Uttar Pradesh’s defence corridor and India’s efforts to promote domestic defence production.
The meeting comes amid US pressure on India regarding its purchase of Russian oil, even as New Delhi continues to strengthen bilateral ties with Moscow. Discussions also touched on energy, trade, and global cooperation.
PM Modi emphasized self-reliance and swadeshi products, urging reduced dependence on other countries. “In a changing world, the more a country relies on others, the more its growth is compromised,” he said, highlighting India’s commitment to “Atmanirbharta” and strategic autonomy in defence, technology, and trade.
