PM Modi reviews Operation Sindoor with top defence officials
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a high-level meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs to assess the ongoing ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The meeting was convened in the wake of continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border. The discussions also included future strategic steps and an in-depth briefing on recent developments.
Sources revealed that PM Modi also engaged in extensive deliberations with military veterans, including former Chiefs of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, to gain broader perspectives on the evolving situation.
Earlier, officials from the Indian Armed Forces provided an update to the media, stating that Pakistani forces launched around 300–400 drones across 36 locations along the western border on the intervening nights of May 8 and 9. According to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, these drones are suspected to be Turkey-made, specifically Turkish Asisguard Songar models, though forensic verification is underway.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, during a special press briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said the purpose of the mass aerial intrusion appeared to be infiltration, intelligence gathering, and testing India’s air defence capabilities.
Despite the scale of the attempted drone and missile attacks—including attempts to target military installations across multiple Indian cities—all intrusions were successfully thwarted by India’s robust air defence systems. The swift and decisive Indian response reportedly left the Pakistani military in a state of panic.
Colonel Qureshi added that on the night of May 7 and 8, Pakistan not only violated Indian airspace but also used heavy-calibre weapons along the LoC in an attempt to hit key military infrastructure. These provocations were neutralised through both kinetic and non-kinetic means.
‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched by India to eliminate terrorist camps located across the LoC and in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
