PM Modi speaks with Qatar Amir, condemns Doha attacks and backs dialogue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday spoke with Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, expressing deep concern over the recent attacks in Doha and reaffirming India’s support for peace and stability in the Gulf region.

“Spoke with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and expressed deep concern at the attacks in Doha. India condemns the violation of the sovereignty of the brotherly State of Qatar. We support resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomacy, and avoiding escalation,” PM Modi posted on X following the call.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi appreciated Qatar’s role in promoting regional peace, including its mediation efforts in Gaza aimed at achieving a ceasefire and securing the release of hostages. Sheikh Tamim, in turn, thanked Modi for India’s solidarity with Qatar and its people.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress of the India-Qatar Strategic Partnership and reiterated their commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, investment, and other priority areas. They also agreed to maintain close contact in the coming months.

The call came a day after Israeli strikes in Doha on Tuesday triggered concerns about regional escalation. India’s Ministry of External Affairs had earlier voiced “deep concern” over the situation, urging restraint and diplomacy to prevent further destabilization.

The conversation also underscored the growing significance of India-Qatar ties. Sheikh Tamim had paid a state visit to India in February 2025, accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers and business leaders. During that visit, the two countries signed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Bilateral Strategic Partnership,” cementing cooperation across multiple sectors.
