Indian diaspora greets PM Modi with chants and cultural celebration in London
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand and emotional welcome from the Indian diaspora as he arrived in London on Wednesday evening for a historic two-day visit focused on the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
Members of the Indian community gathered outside PM Modi’s hotel, chanting ‘Modi, Modi’, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’, while dancing in traditional attire. Dhol players and artists added a festive spirit to the event.
“Touched by the warm welcome from the Indian community in the UK. Their affection and passion towards India’s progress is truly heartening,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Several diaspora members expressed pride and joy at meeting the Prime Minister. One attendee said, “PM Modi looked like a saint. His aura was amazing.” Another added, “I’m inspired by him and proud of how he represents India globally.”
This is PM Modi’s fourth visit to the UK, undertaken at the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. During the trip, Modi will also meet King Charles III.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit will focus on reviewing the India-UK CSP with emphasis on trade, defence, innovation, education, and people-to-people ties. The two leaders are also expected to discuss regional and global issues of mutual concern.
PM Modi’s visit follows recent meetings with PM Starmer during the G20 in Brazil and G7 in Italy, reflecting growing momentum in bilateral relations.
