PM Modi warns of illegal immigration as ISI plots Rohingya infiltration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again highlighted the dangers of illegal immigration, stressing the threat to India’s national security during the RSS centenary celebrations. He had also raised the issue during his Independence Day address, underlining the risks of demographic changes and criminal activity associated with unauthorized entries.

Intelligence reports suggest that Pakistan’s ISI and Bangladesh’s DGFI are actively planning to increase illegal migration into India. While many undocumented migrants have historically come from Bangladesh, the agencies now aim to bring in Rohingya refugees from Myanmar.

Terror groups including Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Aqa Mul Mujahideen (AMM) are reportedly coordinating this effort. Officials say they are targeting displaced Rohingyas in Myanmar, gathering them in Bangladesh, and planning to infiltrate them into India. There is also concern that radicalized Rohingyas could be used for cross-border attacks.

In response, India has strengthened border security and implemented the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, introducing stricter rules for passports, visas, and immigration. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated that India welcomes visitors for tourism, education, business, and healthcare, but “India is not a dharmashala” for illegal immigrants.

Investigations have previously revealed brokers in Tripura facilitating Rohingya entry through Assam. Authorities have been instructed to crack down on such networks to reduce the risk.

Security officials warn that illegal migration, if unchecked, could increase crime, terrorism, and regional instability. The government continues to monitor the situation closely to safeguard India’s borders and national interests.
