Rajnath Singh slams IMF over Pakistan bailout
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday strongly criticized the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approving a $2.1 billion bailout for Pakistan, saying it amounts to indirect financing of terrorism.
Speaking at the Indian Air Force base in Bhuj, Singh stated, “The IMF should reconsider its decision. Any aid to Pakistan is effectively terror financing, as the country continues to allow its soil to be used for attacks on Indian citizens.”
The IMF disbursement is part of a $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) signed with Pakistan in 2023. India has consistently raised concerns that such international financial support could be misused for terror-related activities.
His remarks followed Operation Sindoor, an Indian military strike aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Pakistan had launched drone and missile attacks targeting both military and civilian areas in northern India, including the Bhuj airbase. According to military sources, all incoming threats were intercepted by Indian air defences.
Standing beside a Jaguar strike aircraft and a Pechora missile system, Singh praised the Indian Air Force for its swift and decisive action. “The IAF took out terror targets faster than most people can finish breakfast,” he said.
He referenced night-raid visuals from Pakistan showing massive explosions at terror sites. “Raat ke andhere mein din ka ujala dikha diya,” Singh remarked, describing how the blasts lit up the surroundings.
He also reminded the audience of Pakistan’s long-standing ties with terror groups, noting, “Even Osama bin Laden was found hiding in Pakistan. This is not a coincidence—it’s a pattern.”
