US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor, FS Misri hold productive talks on India–US strategic partnership

US Ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gor met Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in New Delhi on Saturday for a “productive exchange” focused on advancing the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

“They had a productive exchange on the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and its shared priorities. FS wished Ambassador-designate Gor all success for his assignment,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X.

Earlier, Gor held discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the global significance of India–US ties. Jaishankar wrote on X, “Pleased to meet Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor of the US today in New Delhi. Discussed the India–US relationship and its global significance. Wish him the best for his new responsibility.”

Gor, on a four-day visit to India that began on October 9, is accompanied by US Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas. The US Embassy clarified that Gor’s visit is not linked to his formal assumption of office, which will occur after his presentation of credentials at a later date.

During the visit, the US delegation is expected to hold meetings with Indian officials to discuss key bilateral and regional issues, including defense cooperation, technology partnerships, and developments in the Indo-Pacific region.

Gor, 38, was formally nominated as the US Ambassador to India on August 22 and confirmed by the US Senate on October 7. A close aide of former President Donald Trump, Gor previously served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, overseeing appointments across the administration.

His visit comes amid renewed momentum in India–US ties despite challenges such as H-1B visa costs and trade uncertainties. Gor is also set to serve as the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
