Trump cleaned up Washington ahead of PM Modi’s visit

US President Donald Trump said he ordered a cleanup around the White House and the United States Department of State ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington, DC, to ensure the area looked clean and presentable.

“We saw tents everywhere right opposite the State Department. They had to come down, and they took them down right away. We want our capital to be the talk of the world,” Trump said during a speech at the Department of Justice (DoJ).

Trump emphasized that he didn’t want PM Modi or other visiting world leaders to see graffiti, broken barriers, or potholes during their visit.

“When Prime Minister Modi of India, the President of France, and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom came to see me over the last week and a half, I had the route cleaned up. I didn’t want them to see tents, graffiti, or broken roads. And we had it looking beautiful,” Trump said.

The US President highlighted that his administration is committed to cleaning up Washington, DC, and reducing crime. He praised Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser for her efforts, saying she has been doing a “good job.”

PM Modi visited Washington, DC, on February 13 for an Official Working Visit, marking a high-priority meeting early in Trump’s second term. Modi stayed at the Blair House, a historic 70,000-square-foot extension of the White House.

Welcoming Modi at the Oval Office, Trump said he was “thrilled” to welcome his “friend Narendra Modi” back to the White House. Trump also gifted Modi a signed copy of his book Our Journey Together, writing, “You are great.”
