Trump slams Putin and Zelensky for fueling Russia-Ukraine war
U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war would never have happened if he were in office.
Trump’s remarks follow a deadly Russian airstrike over the weekend that killed several civilians, including children. Posting on his platform, Truth Social, Trump called Putin “crazy” and accused him of senseless attacks. “He is needlessly killing a lot of people,” Trump wrote, warning that Putin’s push to take all of Ukraine could lead to Russia’s collapse.
Trump also lashed out at Zelensky for his recent comments blaming American silence for emboldening Russia. “Everything out of his mouth causes problems,” Trump said, urging the Ukrainian leader to change his tone.
Calling the conflict “Zelensky’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s war,” Trump distanced himself from responsibility and said he’s trying to resolve the crisis. He also hinted at imposing tougher sanctions on Russia, though his approach reportedly differs from that of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The criticism came shortly after Russia and Ukraine conducted their largest prisoner swap since the war began in 2022, exchanging around 1,000 detainees each. Among those killed in Russia’s latest assault were three children in the Zhytomyr region.
