Dalai Lama nears 90, continues to embrace every soul with compassion
As he approaches his 90th birthday on July 6, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama remains as spiritually radiant and accessible as ever, extending his arms to the world with deepened compassion and humility.
Despite his age, the Tibetan spiritual leader rises daily at 3 a.m. to meditate, continuing his teachings and blessings with vigor. He warmly greets followers—often playfully tugging noses or blessing shaved heads—with a presence that reflects his belief: “We 7 billion human beings—emotionally, mentally, physically—are the same.”
In Dharamsala, where he resides, public blessing lines are arranged on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Devotees must send prior email requests to his office, offering background details and visit dates.
This year, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) has announced a Year of Compassion from July 2025 to July 2026 to mark his 90th year, with a long-life prayer ceremony at the Tsuglagkhang temple in McLeodganj on the eve of his birthday. Thousands are expected to attend.
Earlier this year, His Holiness released a new book, Voice for the Voiceless, detailing Tibet’s nonviolent struggle, the role of international support—particularly the U.S. Congress—and his Middle Way approach to resolving the Tibetan crisis. He also addressed succession plans, possibly preparing to make further clarifications in a message to top Tibetan religious leaders.
Since fleeing Tibet in 1959, the Dalai Lama has rebuilt the Tibetan government-in-exile in India and remains steadfast in preserving Tibetan identity, unity, and peace.
As his 90th summer approaches, he continues to inspire millions with an undiminished sense of purpose, humility, and boundless compassion.
