Bihar engineer goes missing in Iran amid escalating conflict
A 25-year-old engineer from Bihar’s Siwan district has gone missing in Iran amid the ongoing military conflict between Iran and Israel, prompting urgent appeals from his family for government intervention.
The missing youth, Siraj Ali Ansari, hails from Ramapali village under Muffasil police station limits. He was working as a Quality Control Engineer for a petroleum company and had recently arrived in Iran via Saudi Arabia on June 9.
His father, Hazrat Ali, said the last contact with Siraj occurred on June 17 at around 2 p.m. During the call, Siraj mentioned that bombings had taken place just a kilometre from his location but assured his family he was safe. Since then, his phone has been unreachable, and no communication has been received.
“We are very worried. My son told me he was in a safe place, but the sound of bombings was terrifyingly close,” said Hazrat Ali. “We haven’t heard from him since.”
The family has submitted a formal appeal to Siwan District Magistrate Aditya Prakash, seeking assistance from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian government to locate and evacuate Siraj. His uncles, Shakeel Ahmad Ansari and Akhtar Ali Ansari, have also joined the plea for help.
Hazrat Ali said he would personally meet the District Magistrate to push for swift action.
Siraj, who is unmarried and the eldest of three siblings, is among many Indians believed to be stranded in conflict-affected zones. As concerns rise, families are calling for urgent evacuation efforts.
So far, under Operation Sindhu, India has evacuated 1,713 citizens from Iran, with another batch of 285 arriving on Sunday evening.
