Centre Approves 50 National Highway Projects in Manipur
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved 50 National Highway (NH) projects spanning 1,026 km in Manipur, marking a significant infrastructure boost for the northeast.
This announcement follows Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s review of 29 NH projects covering 545 km in Nagaland, emphasizing the need for improved connectivity in the region.
Among the approved projects in Manipur, 44 cover 902 km in hilly areas. Of these, eight projects (125 km) have been completed, while 36 projects worth Rs 12,000 crore (777 km) are currently underway.
The ministry’s Annual Plan for 2024-25 includes two NH projects totaling Rs 1,350 crore for 90 km in hilly regions.
Under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), the ministry has approved 57 of the 111 prioritized works submitted by the state government.
During a review meeting, Gadkari underscored the urgency of enhancing mobility infrastructure in Nagaland, focusing on sustainability and cost-efficiency. He stated, “These initiatives will greatly enhance connectivity, drive local economic growth, and contribute to the region’s deeper integration into India’s overall development.”
The meeting included discussions on the progress of Nagaland’s highways, which are seen as vital for regional growth, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for improved connectivity and prosperity.
