The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 112 kg of mephedrone, a psychotropic substance classified under the NDPS Act, during a raid at a factory in Jhabua district, Madhya Pradesh. Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
The operation took place in the early hours of Sunday at a factory located in the Meghnagar industrial area. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers discovered the facility was involved in the illegal manufacturing of mephedrone.
According to the DRI statement, the raid yielded 36 kg of mephedrone in powder form and 76 kg in liquid form, along with various raw materials and equipment. All items were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The factory has been sealed as part of the investigation.
Samples of the seized substances were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for testing, which confirmed the presence of mephedrone.
The arrested individuals include the factory’s director, charged with the illegal manufacturing and storage of mephedrone.
The DRI emphasized that the bust highlights its commitment to dismantling syndicates involved in drug manufacturing and distribution, which pose a significant threat to the youth of India. Mephedrone, often referred to by names such as drone, M-CAT, White Magic, and meow meow, is typically consumed through nasal insufflation or oral ingestion.
The agency remains dedicated to combating the menace of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, acknowledging their serious socio-economic implications.
