PM Modi, Danish PM discuss green strategic partnership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a phone conversation with his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen, reaffirming both nations’ commitment to deepening their collaboration under the Green Strategic Partnership.
“Glad to speak with PM Mette Frederiksen today. Reaffirmed our strong support for the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and enhancing cooperation across sectors for the benefit of our people. We also discussed regional and global developments of mutual interest,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Launched in 2020, the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership has since expanded into several areas, including water management, renewable energy, sustainable urban development, and the circular economy. The leaders noted that this cooperation has created a conducive environment for Danish investments supporting India’s green transition.
Both leaders also exchanged views on current regional and global issues, underlining the need for sustained collaboration in sustainability-focused sectors.
PM Modi expressed his anticipation for the upcoming 3rd India-Nordic Summit to be held in Norway later this year, where he is expected to meet Frederiksen in person.
Denmark remains the only country with which India has a formal Green Strategic Partnership. During their earlier interactions, Frederiksen had praised PM Modi for setting ambitious clean energy and water access goals and called him “an inspiration for the rest of the world.”
In turn, PM Modi has often highlighted the role of Danish expertise and innovation in supporting India’s scale-driven approach to sustainable growth. During his 2022 visit to Copenhagen, Modi lauded Frederiksen’s warmth toward the Indian community and welcomed further India-Denmark collaborations.
Last year, PM Modi also expressed concern after a physical attack on Frederiksen in Copenhagen, posting on X: “Deeply concerned by the news of the attack on Mette Frederiksen, Denmark’s Prime Minister. We condemn the attack. Wishing good health to my friend.”
The two leaders continue to strengthen ties aimed at addressing climate change and promoting green growth.
