Karnataka Muslim groups back PM Modi on Pahalgam terror attack
Multiple Muslim organisations in Karnataka have voiced strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to ensure justice for the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which left at least 26 tourists dead.
“We stand with the country and with the Prime Minister. We support whatever action he takes. Those responsible must be punished harshly, and there should be a thorough investigation into the security lapses,” said Hazrat Moulana Mufti Iftekar Ahmed Qasmi, President of Jamiat Ulama Hind, Karnataka.
He emphasized that the nation must look beyond religion and uphold humanity, calling the loss of lives a shared national tragedy. He pointed to previous attacks like Pulwama and expressed concern about repeated lapses in security, especially in sensitive regions like Kashmir during the tourist season.
The Chief Imam of Jamia Masjid in Bengaluru, Moulana Mohammed Maqsood Imran Rashadi, urged the central government to provide Rs 1 crore in compensation to each victim’s family, along with job support and other welfare benefits.
“Terrorism has no religion. We share in the grief of the families. Pahalgam has shocked the entire nation,” Rashadi said during a press conference at the Bengaluru Press Club.
He questioned how such an attack could occur despite the heavy military presence in the area. “There are eight lakh soldiers deployed in that region. Yet, terrorists could enter, attack, and escape. How is that possible?” he asked, calling for strict action and accountability.
The attack occurred in Baisaran, a meadow near Pahalgam, when heavily armed terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on tourists. Prime Minister Modi, cutting short his Saudi Arabia visit, returned to New Delhi and held urgent consultations with key officials including NSA Ajit Doval, EAM S. Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
The PM has vowed justice for the victims and reaffirmed India’s resolve to combat terrorism decisively.
