MUDA Case: RTI Activist Exposing Karnataka CM’s Involvement Receives Life Threats from Land Mafia

A Mysuru-based RTI activist, who has exposed alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and implicated Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has reported receiving life threats from land sharks and the real estate mafia.

In response, Karnataka Police have increased patrols around the activist’s residence and the surrounding areas in Mysuru.

N Gangaraju, the activist in question, had previously revealed links between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s family and the MUDA case. He has requested additional security and a gunman in a letter to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). While his request for a gunman was denied, authorities have arranged for heightened police presence and set up a ‘Smart e-beat’ system at his home.

Gangaraju told IANS that several key documents related to the MUDA case against Siddaramaiah are still pending release. He recounted an incident on Sunday when his vehicle was intercepted by unknown individuals who threatened him and his family; he managed to photograph the suspects.

Gangaraju noted that he had previously filed a criminal case against Siddaramaiah during his first term as Chief Minister, alleging direct involvement in a land scandal. The case is currently before the Supreme Court, with the High Court requiring proof of Siddaramaiah’s direct involvement. Despite his efforts to provide evidence, Gangaraju said he continues to face threats.

The Inspector of Kuvempunagar Police Station in Mysuru issued a statement on August 28, detailing that various police units, including a mobile squad and plainclothes officers, will be patrolling Gangaraju’s residence and nearby areas. A point book has been established for beat police to log their patrols, and officers will monitor suspicious activity.

Gangaraju has been advised to contact the police immediately if he or his family face further threats. He was also informed that he could arrange for gunman protection by paying the requisite fee.

Previously, a Congress party delegation had filed a complaint with the Mysuru Police Commissioner, demanding Gangaraju’s arrest and accusing him of spreading propaganda against the Chief Minister and his family.

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, HD Kumaraswamy, has criticized the Congress government for allegedly targeting RTI activists like Gangaraju who expose the MUDA scandal involving Siddaramaiah’s family.

Gangaraju remains a key figure in uncovering land-related irregularities in Mysuru, particularly those concerning MUDA.
