Over 1.55 Lakh Candidates Sign Up for PM Internship Scheme in 24 Hours
The newly launched PM Internship Scheme has seen an impressive response, with over 1.55 lakh candidates registering within just 24 hours, according to government sources.
The registration process began on Saturday, offering nearly 80,000 internship opportunities across 24 sectors on the dedicated portal. Announced in the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the scheme aims to assist around 10 million young people over the next five years, addressing youth unemployment by connecting them with companies seeking talent.
Major private firms, including Jubilant Foodworks, Maruti Suzuki India, Larsen and Toubro, Muthoot Finance, and Reliance Industries, are among the 193 companies that have listed internship positions on the platform. Opportunities span over 20 fields, such as operations management, production, maintenance, and sales, across sectors like oil, gas, energy, travel, hospitality, automotive, and banking.
The portal facilitates efficient access to internships with Aadhaar-based registration and features like bio-data generation. This year, the initiative aims to provide more than 1.2 lakh internships across 737 districts in 28 states and 8 Union Territories.
The scheme is designed to help bridge skill gaps and enhance employment prospects. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to intern with the top 500 companies in India for a year, receiving a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 along with a one-time grant of Rs 6,000. Of the stipend, Rs 500 will come from the companies as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, while the government will contribute the remaining Rs 4,500.
Eligible candidates must have completed high school or higher secondary education, possess an ITI certificate, hold a diploma from a Polytechnic Institute, or be graduates in fields such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, or B.Pharma.
Candidates can register for the scheme through the portal: PM Internship Scheme.
