Paraguayan President begins India visit to strengthen bilateral ties

Paraguayan President Santiago Pena Palacios arrived in India on Monday for a three-day state visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations. Invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the visit includes key meetings in New Delhi and Mumbai.

President Pena received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Air Force Station Palam and is accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers, officials, and business leaders. He is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and later hold extensive talks with PM Modi to review India-Paraguay relations.

President Droupadi Murmu will host a banquet in his honour, while Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will also call on him. This is President Pena’s first visit to India and marks only the second visit by a Paraguayan head of state.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit will focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals, IT, and renewable energy. Both countries also align on global issues like UN reforms and climate change.

In Mumbai, President Pena will meet with business leaders, startups, and innovators to strengthen economic and technological collaboration.

President Pena’s visit is expected to further expand India-Paraguay cooperation and reinforce their shared global outlook before concluding on June 4.
