RG Kar Tragedy: CBI Attempts to Recover Deleted Data from Phones of Ghosh and Mondal

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is working to retrieve deleted data from the mobile phones of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal, the former SHO of Tala Police Station, as part of their inquiry into the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor.

Investigators have uncovered evidence suggesting that communications between Ghosh and Mondal were deleted intentionally on August 9, the day the victim’s body was found in a seminar hall. Sources indicate that the CBI is focused on recovering call recordings made between the two from the morning of August 9 until the victim’s cremation later that evening.

Both individuals had their phones set to “auto-call recording mode,” which means that conversations should have been automatically recorded. However, these recordings were reportedly deleted by both Ghosh and Mondal, likely to conceal their communications.

The recovery of these recordings could significantly strengthen the CBI’s case against them, as the main allegations include misleading the initial investigation conducted by Kolkata Police and tampering with evidence after the victim’s body was discovered.

Last week, Mondal declined to consent to a polygraph test, prompting the CBI to seek permission from a special court in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Ghosh initially agreed to a polygraph test but has since refused consent for a narco-analysis test.
