Brazil Lifts Ban on X Following Compliance with Court Orders

Brazil’s Supreme Court has lifted the ban on the social media platform X, which had been in effect for over a month due to non-compliance with court rulings.

Judge Alexandre de Moraes announced the lifting of the ban on Tuesday after X paid approximately 28.6 million reals (about $5.17 million) in fines to the Brazilian government, as reported by Xinhua.

“I hereby declare the suspension lifted and authorize the immediate resumption of X Brasil Internet Ltd.’s activities within the national territory,” Moraes ruled, instructing the National Telecommunications Agency to implement this decision and report back within 24 hours.

X was initially banned on August 30 for failing to appoint a legal representative in Brazil and for not paying fines related to a court order. Since then, the platform has appointed a legal representative and complied with a separate court directive to block accounts linked to individuals investigated for inciting a coup in Brazil.
