ISI cultivates Hamas as proxy against India while misleading US on Gaza peace

Pakistan’s ISI is reportedly training Hamas leaders on its soil, intending to use the group as a proxy against India, even as it projects a cooperative stance to the United States on Gaza peace.

The White House recently released a 20-point Gaza peace plan following discussions between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan calls for Hamas to release hostages, relinquish control of Gaza, and disarm. Meanwhile, Pakistan has signaled plans to send troops as part of a Muslim nations’ peacekeeping force in Gaza, highlighting the country’s double standards.

Intelligence reports reveal that Hamas leaders have been attending training camps run by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Pakistan for months. Officials say the training is not meant for action against Israel, but to prepare Hamas for operations in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, India, and Bangladesh.

The Pakistan Army, struggling against the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP), sees Hamas as a battle-hardened force to support its operations. Hamas will focus on confronting the BLA and TTP, while LeT and JeM remain concentrated in Jammu and Kashmir under ISI directives.

Hamas is also reportedly being deployed to Bangladesh to assist local terror groups like Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HuJI) and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JuMB) in potential strikes in India’s northeast. Intelligence officials note that Hamas leaders have visited Bangladesh multiple times at the ISI’s behest, aiming to destabilize India.

Observers say Pakistan’s strategy reflects its dual approach: publicly cooperating with the US on regional peace, while covertly backing terror groups that threaten both India and US interests. This mirrors past incidents, including the sheltering of Osama Bin Laden despite Pakistan’s official support in the US-led war on terror.
