Severe humanitarian crisis in Balochistan amid Pakistan Army operations: Rights body

A leading human rights organisation has alleged that Pakistan Army operations in the Zehri region of Balochistan have triggered a severe humanitarian and human rights crisis, leaving thousands of civilians trapped without food, water, or medical care.

According to Paank, the Human Rights Department of the Baloch National Movement, the military has placed the Khuzdar district’s Zehri area under siege for over a week. A curfew has been imposed, movement restricted, and entire villages — including Nicharah, Pandran, Khumbi, and Balbal — cut off from essential supplies. Residents are reportedly facing acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine as security forces intensify operations.

“Despite the scale of the crisis, media coverage is non-existent, and no relief or medical assistance has reached the affected areas,” Paank stated, accusing the Pakistani government of violating international humanitarian and human rights laws. The group demanded immediate humanitarian intervention and a transparent investigation into alleged abuses.

Another rights body, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), reported civilian casualties, including two elderly women, due to shelling and bombardment by the army. The BYC also accused the military of destroying homes, standing crops, water sources, and solar energy systems — crippling livelihoods and deepening the suffering of displaced families.

“The entire area is under siege. Food, water, and medicines have been cut off; hospitals lack doctors and supplies; and communication networks remain suspended,” BYC said, calling the situation “a deliberate humanitarian catastrophe.”

The committee further alleged systematic human rights violations, including violence during house raids and targeting of civilians. Both Paank and BYC have appealed to international human rights organisations to intervene urgently and hold the perpetrators accountable for what they term as “war crimes” in Balochistan.
