Australian Energy Minister Chris Bowen to visit India, China this week

Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, will visit India and China this week for a series of high-level discussions aimed at advancing renewable energy and climate cooperation.

In New Delhi, Bowen will co-chair the first Renewable Energy Partnership Ministers Meeting with India’s Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi. He will also hold bilateral talks with Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during the 5th India-Australia Energy Dialogue.

According to a statement from Australia’s Ministry for Climate Change and Energy, the meetings will focus on accelerating the clean energy transition, fostering two-way investment, and enhancing cooperation in areas such as solar PV, green hydrogen, energy storage, and skills development.

The visit builds upon the outcomes of the India-Australia Annual Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024, where Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Anthony Albanese reaffirmed their joint commitment to deepen the India-Australia Renewable Energy Partnership (REP).

Under REP, both nations aim to align complementary capabilities and drive climate action through technology sharing, innovation, and workforce training for the renewables sector.

Following his engagements in India, Bowen will travel to Beijing to attend the 9th Australia-China Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Change, where he will meet Chinese Minister of Ecology and Environment, Huang Runqiu.

The two sides are expected to discuss collaborative pathways for emissions reduction and regional climate resilience.
