Delhi L-G: Rs 2,500 monthly aid for women a top priority
Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Tuesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing Rs 2,500 per month to women, emphasizing that the Viksit Delhi manifesto serves as the foundation for the new administration’s governance.
He assured that the government would adhere to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas aur Sabka Samman.”
Speaking at the maiden session of the Delhi Assembly, L-G Saxena outlined the BJP-led government’s priorities, which include:
- Implementing the Ayushman Bharat health scheme
- Empowering women and uplifting the poor
- Cleaning the Yamuna River
- Developing unauthorized colonies
- Providing affordable meals in slum areas
Focus on Economic Growth and Transparency
The L-G underscored the government’s commitment to job creation and economic development, promising to shift away from a governance model focused on advertising rather than delivery.
“My government sees the massive mandate in its favor as a public endorsement of the policy overhaul promised to them,” he said, amid protests from AAP legislators, who were later marshaled out on the Speaker’s instructions.
Throughout his address, BJP MLAs responded with chants of “Modi, Modi,” especially when he mentioned plans to clean the Yamuna, provide clean water, and generate employment opportunities.
10-Point Agenda for Development
L-G Saxena emphasized ten key focus areas, including:
- Welfare of the poor
- World-class healthcare, education, and transport systems
- Clean drinking water supply
- Subsidized LPG cylinders and financial aid for pregnant women
- Higher pensions for elderly and widows
- Manpower audit for government efficiency
- PM Modi’s housing scheme for slum dwellers
- Expansion of solar power initiatives
- Road and sewer infrastructure improvement
- Transforming Delhi into India’s cleanest metro city
Governance Reforms and Accountability
The L-G announced that the first Cabinet meeting had decided to table the CAG report in the Assembly to analyze the administrative lapses of the previous government.
He further criticized the previous administration for blocking constructive discussions and using the Assembly as a platform for political rhetoric.
“My government aims to make Delhi the cleanest metro and achieve the top rank in the Swachh Bharat rankings by eliminating landfill waste and turning them into green spaces,” he stated.
Following the L-G’s address, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tabled the CAG report, and legislators participated in a Vote of Thanks debate.
AAP Legislators Suspended Amid Protests
Earlier in the session, 12 AAP MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Atishi, were suspended for disrupting the proceedings during the L-G’s address.
The three-day Delhi Assembly session began on Monday, with newly elected MLAs taking their oaths and the nomination of the House Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The session will conclude on Thursday.
