EAM Jaishankar, Canadian FM Anita Anand review New Roadmap 2025 to strengthen bilateral ties
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara, Canada, where they reviewed the progress made under the New Roadmap 2025 aimed at strengthening India–Canada relations across multiple sectors.
Welcoming EAM Jaishankar to the G7 meet, Minister Anand said on X (formerly Twitter), “We discussed cooperation on trade, energy, security, and people-to-people ties.” She also conveyed condolences for the victims of the recent explosion in Delhi and expressed Canada’s solidarity with India during this difficult time.
According to a statement from Canada’s Department of Global Affairs, the meeting marked the third interaction between the two ministers in 2025, underscoring the growing momentum in bilateral engagement. The statement noted that both sides discussed progress in the Canada–India Joint Roadmap 2025, which outlines enhanced collaboration in trade, clean energy, security, technology, and cultural exchanges.
“The ministers exchanged views on the ongoing law-enforcement dialogue between Canadian and Indian authorities. They also discussed the progress being made on the Canada–India Joint Roadmap, which sets out a plan to enhance cooperation in key areas, including energy, trade and people-to-people ties,” the Canadian statement added.
Minister Anand appreciated India’s participation as an invited partner in the G7 discussions, recognizing India’s rising global role as the world’s fourth-largest economy and a strategic partner of long standing. Both leaders agreed to remain in close touch to ensure steady implementation of the roadmap’s objectives.
Taking to X, EAM Jaishankar wrote: “Delighted to meet FM Anita Anand of Canada today. Congratulated her on hosting the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Appreciated the progress in the implementation of the New Roadmap 2025. Look forward to the further rebuilding of our bilateral partnership.”
Jaishankar’s visit to Canada, at the invitation of Foreign Minister Anand, highlights India’s continued engagement with G7 nations and Outreach Partners, focusing on cooperation in economic resilience, energy transition, and global security.
The meeting follows Anand’s recent trip to India last month, where the two ministers agreed on an ambitious plan to reset and rebuild bilateral ties following a period of strain, emphasizing the shared goal of renewed collaboration under the New Roadmap 2025.
