EAM Jaishankar appreciates Odisha CM for the successful PBD 2025

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has expressed his gratitude to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for the successful hosting of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) in Bhubaneswar from January 8-10, 2025. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Jaishankar commended the state government for the meticulous planning and flawless execution of the event.

The External Affairs Minister also noted the positive feedback received from members of the Indian diaspora who attended the event, praising Odisha’s hospitality and the assistance provided during their stay. Jaishankar acknowledged the contributions of CM Majhi and other stakeholders in making the event a resounding success and expressed his hope for future collaborations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the three-day event, which showcased Odisha’s rich art, culture, and heritage. The event also included the launch of the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train for the Indian diaspora.

PBD 2025 was significant as it was the first to be held in Eastern India, aligning with the Government of India’s ‘Purvodaya’ initiative and strengthening its ‘Act East Policy.’ Over 75 countries participated in the event, which also marked the renewal of Odisha’s historic maritime connections with Southeast Asia.
