Greek defence minister says ready to support Lebanese army

Greece is ready to provide necessary support to the Lebanese army, said Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias during his visit to Beirut on Tuesday.

In a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Dendias expressed Greece’s willingness to share military expertise and infrastructure advancements, according to a statement from the Lebanese Presidency.

President Aoun welcomed the offer, highlighting it as a reflection of the strong bilateral relationship and mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Aoun also briefed Dendias on the tense security situation in southern Lebanon, strongly condemning Israeli violations of Lebanese territory and breaches of the November ceasefire agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Earlier, Dendias met with Lebanese Defence Minister Michel Menassah. According to the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), the two ministers discussed defence cooperation, regional security, and shared international concerns.

The meeting also highlighted Greece’s active role within the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the importance of joint efforts to tackle illegal migration.

Dendias reiterated Greece’s firm commitment to supporting Lebanon and stated that Greece is prepared to help the Lebanese army meet its operational needs.

Minister Menassah expressed gratitude for Greece’s continued backing and urged Greece to play a role in halting Israeli violations and ensuring full implementation of Resolution 1701.
