Hamas delegation arrives in Egypt for talks on implementing Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan

A senior Hamas delegation arrived in Egypt on Sunday to prepare for negotiations over the implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan, according to Egyptian sources cited by Xinhua. The discussions are scheduled to take place Monday in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh.

The talks will focus on the first phase of the proposed peace plan, which includes a framework for a prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel, as well as discussions on Hamas’s potential disarmament process. Egyptian mediators are expected to facilitate both sides in reaching preliminary agreements.

Following the Hamas talks, Egyptian officials will meet separately with an Israeli delegation. The outcomes of both discussions will be presented to U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner upon their arrival in Egypt.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry confirmed that both sides are expected to deliberate on “field conditions and details” of exchanging all Israeli detainees and Palestinian prisoners under the U.S.-proposed 20-point plan.

President Trump, in multiple posts on Truth Social, said Israel has agreed to an initial withdrawal line and that a ceasefire will take effect immediately once Hamas confirms the terms. “Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off,” Trump warned, emphasizing urgency in concluding the deal.

He added that once the agreement is confirmed, hostages and prisoners would be released, paving the way for subsequent phases of withdrawal and reconstruction efforts.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed optimism that the release of hostages from Gaza could be announced “in the coming days,” signaling cautious progress in indirect negotiations brokered by Egypt.

The talks mark a crucial step toward de-escalating one of the most volatile conflicts in the region.
