Harris Campaign Faces Fallout from ‘Backers’ Comment on Women

The Kamala Harris campaign is reeling from backlash after a billionaire supporter, Mark Cuban, made critical remarks about women who support Donald Trump. This controversy follows President Joe Biden’s recent comments labeling Trump supporters as “garbage.”

During an appearance on The View, Cuban stated, “Donald Trump, you never see him around strong, intelligent women. Ever. It’s just that simple. They intimidate him.” Trump’s spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, swiftly responded, calling the remarks “extremely insulting” to the many women who work for Trump and the millions who support him.

Linda McMahon, co-chair of Trump’s transition team, added her critique, questioning Cuban’s definition of a “strong, intelligent woman” in light of recent debates about gender identity, particularly referencing Ketanji Brown Jackson’s response at her Senate hearing when she declined to define a woman by stating, “I am not a biologist.”

This latest controversy emerged just days after Biden’s comments that insulted Trump supporters, which were condemned by Elise Stefanik, a Republican leader in the House. She remarked, “Just two days ago, Joe Biden called 250 million Americans ‘garbage.’ Now we have Kamala Harris’ ally suggesting that women who support Trump are weak and unintelligent. That’s the disgraceful message from Democrats.”

In a bold response, Trump donned a trash collector’s vest and climbed aboard a garbage truck to emphasize his point against Biden’s insults. He wrote on social media platform X, “I surround myself with the strongest of women—understanding that ALL women are great, whether strong or not strong.”

Trump also labeled Cuban as “a dumb guy” and dismissed his comments about surrounding himself with strong women. Cuban later apologized on X, clarifying, “When I said this during the interview, I didn’t get it out exactly the way I thought I did. I apologize to anyone who felt slighted or upset. It wasn’t about Trump voters or supporters.”

Cuban’s remarks stemmed from a discussion about Nikki Haley, a former Trump cabinet member who expressed her willingness to campaign for him but indicated she hadn’t been asked to. Cuban suggested that Haley would challenge Trump on issues related to women’s rights, which he claimed was why she wasn’t involved in his campaign.
